Phoebe

Phoebe is one of my original characters. She was originally made as a Destiny Guardian, however now that I no longer play Destiny, she is a multi-fandom OC that I use as I see fit.

I adore Phoebe as a character, even if she is incredibly self-indulgent. This webpage is all about her and her character lore.

Please note: There will be unmarked spoilers where applicable.

About Phoebe

Digitally drawn art of Phoebe.
  • Names: Phoebe
  • Birthday: October 12th - Libra
  • Gender: Girlie
  • Pronouns: She/They
  • Orientation: Bisexual
  • Height: ~5'0
  • Alignment: Neutral Good

Personality

Phoebe is an outgoing character that lights up any room she's in. She is foolhardy and cares deeply for her friends and loved ones, and is willing to throw herself in danger if it meant protecting her friends (or, y'know, to flex or get some mad loot). Phoebe's always willing to help those in need, going out of her way to try anything to find a solution. She hates those that treat people like dirt, and isn't afraid to raise her voice or start a fight if it meant righting a wrong.

Appearance

Phoebe is a short, fat, feminine woman with yellow eyes and shoulder-length pastel orange hair. She is typically depicted either with a lavender skin tone or a pale tone depending on the universe. She has a scar across her left lower calf. In certain iterations, she has two white dots by each eye, and a white line down her nose. She sometimes has pointy elven-like ears that point outward.

She enjoys dressing very feminine and kitschy - doubly so if she happens to be in company with Alfredo, from whom she takes inspiration from.

Additional Info & Trivia

  • Her favorite season is summer - she loves to have fun in the sun.
  • She is an avid reader, even though she predominantly enjoys poorly written pulp fiction.

TV Tropes

General

  • Blood Knight: Phoebe loves a good brawl. Doubly so in Destiny, what with all the paracausal baddies lying about.
  • Girly Bruiser: You can't fight intergalactic evils if you ain't cute! Sometimes approaches Kicking Ass in All Her Finery territory if her transmog is just over-the-top enough.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Phoebe is notably shorter than her compatriots, but this doesn't stop her from packing a nasty punch. Lampshaded in Baldur's Gate, where during character creation the Narrator assumes she is a dwarf.
  • Plucky Girl: Even as a Guardian-killing space pirate, she maintains a degree of wonder - and it's this wonder that enables her to change. Sometimes dips into Genki Girl if she's faced with something she's rather enthusiastic about.

Destiny 2

  • The Atoner: She becomes this in her journey from a rogue Lightbearer to a Titan Guardian, recognizing that being a pillaging space pirate is rather bad actually and wanting to do right in the universe. Most Guardians seem hesitantly accepting of this, though some - most notably Thadya, whom she stole the Titan spot on the team from - are less than thrilled with the idea that someone who made a hobby of crushing the ghosts of many a Guardian has become one herself.
  • Badass in Distress: When her Ghost Agatha is captured by a Hive Wizard, and she loses her Light powers.
  • Battle Couple: With Alfredo, as part of Fireteam Vale.
  • Car Fu: Phoebe is a little too enthusiastic about ramming enemies with her Sparrow. And her ship, which either sucks or is great for Amanda Holliday depending on how you look at it.
  • Death is Cheap: As much applicable to her as any Lightbearer, what with their Resurrective Immortality. Of Fireteam Vale, she is the most death-prone - not because she's weak, rather, because she's made throwing herself into danger a personal pastime.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Of Fireteam Vale, she's the Titan.
  • Foil: To Thadya. Both are Titans seeking to do good with the powers granted to them - though Phoebe is (mostly) concerned with how her actions help or harm others and wanting to make an impact that directly helps Humanity, Thadya's do-gooding through her commitment to the Light via the Praxic Order fuels her descent to fanatic devotion to an unquestioning degree, going so far as to assist Aunor in mercy-killing Guardians that use Stasis powers.
  • Pirate Girl: A Space Pirate Girl! Or at least, was a space pirate girl. Despite her memories being rather turbulent, she does relive it in a hammed up LARP-y way during Season of the Plunder with all the other Guardians doing it.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Mutually with Alfredo, to the ire of Ley and any other Guardians in the fireteam. Of the two, Phoebe is the more outwardly showy when it comes to affection.
  • Space Elves: The Awoken already count, but doubly so for Phoebe what with her big ol' elf ears.
  • Power Perversion Potential: Phoebe has a track record for her inappropriate use of the Light, even after becoming a Guardian. The first thing she thinks about when she adopts Strand is trying it on her boyfriend.
  • Stupid Sacrifice: Should she convince her fireteam to join the assault to take on the Witness, she gets herself permanently killed by the Witness as part of an exit strategy gone wrong. It would've been avoided had she not volunteer her team into a suicide mission with a paracausal alien of unknowable power in the first place.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: When she interacts with Guardians more beyond crushing Ghosts and crushing heads, and ends up becoming one herself. Turns out helping people feels nice.
  • Turn to Religion: This can sort-of be seen with her becoming a Guardian, as in her journey she comes to see the Light and the Traveler as an important presence in her life. It is through the Traveler that she is alive and functionally a Resurrective Immortal, after all.
    • This is taken even further in Baldur's Gate, where her beliefs in the Light are what grants her the government-assigned class of Paladin.

Baldur's Gate 3

  • Bisexual Love Triangle: Between Karlach, the tall muscular tiefling Nice Girl barbarian with an Infernal Engine in her chest, and Halsin, the Gentle Giant Archdruid of the Emerald Grove and beloved bear of the party. She gets with neither at the end, however, pining to have her husband-to-be back.
    • The whole reason Phoebe crushes on Halsin in the first place is that he reminds her of Alfredo - while shitfaced during the events of the tiefling party, she mistakens Halsin for him.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Briefly, when Phoebe is initally reincarnated into Faerun, the Narrator helps her put her character sheet together as a Tav before diving headfirst into Illithid chaos.
  • Dork Knight: Phoebe's culture shock figuring out the ways of Faerun makes her into one of these.
  • Heartbroken Badass: She is this with Alfredo, whose fate is unknown to her. The yearning doesn't stop her from being a hammer-wielding badass, though.
    • This is taken advantage of by the Emperor, who uses Alfredo's appearance to coerce Phoebe into using the tadpole powers.
  • The Paladin: Her government-assigned class by the Narrator, under the Oath of the Ancients. Considering her background as a Titan, and the whole thing with the Light, it checks out, even if the Light of Baldur's Gate is a bit different from that of Destiny.
  • Reincarnate in Another World: And a Crossover one at that. Should she choose to throw hands with the Witness, and inevitably perish, one of the potential results ends up being her showing up in Faerun at just the wrong time for a Mindflayer Nautilus to scoop her up with all memories intact, and with all the guilt that comes with fully knowing she's the reason why she's there in the first place. Technically a Fusion Fic, as Phoebe takes the role of Tav.

Destiny 2

  • Names: Phoebe
  • First Risen: October 12th
  • Class: Titan
  • Subclass: Sentinel, Sunbreaker
  • Titles: Descendant
  • Ghost: Agatha
  • Status: On Duty / Dead

Phoebe is an Awoken Titan, and the leader of Fireteam Vale. Despite being a "new" Light, Phoebe is far from new to the life of a Lightbearer - her righteous do-gooder attitude belies a dubious history as a rogue Lightbearer among a gang of Eliksni raiders that once terrorized the Sol system. As a Guardian, she predominantly helms raid runs, as well as assisting in defensive missions for the settlements dotting the system.

Her Ghost, Agatha, is haughty and full of herself - though she cares a lot for her Guardian.

Build

Phoebe tends to be a flexible fighter, willing to change her role to suit the needs of her fireteam. She has a preference for Sentinel or Sunbreaker. She has a unique Sentinel Shield, a tower shield that covers her from head to toe. Phoebe also enjoys a good throwing hammer every now and then.

She has a fondness for gunplay, and is a fan of machine guns. Her weapon of choice is Polaris Lance - a reliable weapon both in the field and in the Crucible.

History

Phoebe was risen during the events of The Taken King, to a roving group of rogue Lightbearers part of a larger gang of Eliksni raiders. Though proving herself as a skilled fighter, going so far as to end the Light of multiple Guardians she crossed paths with - she was never taken seriously by the gang. Despite her ostrasization, she gained the affection of one other Lightbearer: Nadia.

Together with Nadia, they worked together to garner notoriety within the gang, with Nadia's sights on taking over. However, there was a complication with their plans - during a raid gone wrong, Agatha was captured by a Hive Wizard. In the eleventh hour, a fireteam of Guardians performing a strike mission intercepted the Hive Wizard. This act of heroism moved Phoebe to doubt the route she took her immortal life.

Her life of plundering took a turn for the worse when Nadia executed her plan of mutiny, murdering the leader of the Eliksni gang in cold blood and forcing the gang into a state of chaos. Phoebe betrayed Nadia and escaped, spending years on the run as a scavenger and mercenary Lightbearer on the Tangled Shore.

While scavenging deep in the halls of a Hive cavern, she came across a Hunter and Warlock, lost and lightless. Taking advantage of the situation, she aided the fireteam to safety. Little did she know, this fireteam would become her "home" - Fireteam Vale. She convinced the fireteam to take her on as a New Light - and having lost their Titan due to "difference of opinion", they allowed her in.

Phoebe's canon diverges during Lightfall - she either remains an on-duty Guardian after Alfredo's retirement and becomes the leader of Fireteam Vale, or partakes in a raid against the Witness in which she perishes.

Relationships

She is the newest member and most recent leader of Fireteam Vale, joining the fireteam during the events of Beyond Light, and being given the lead during Lightfall.

Fireteam Members

  • Alfredo: Awoken Hunter Nightstalker. A kind gentle giant that wears his heart on his sleeve, and member of Fireteam Vale. She cares deeply for him, as her partner and a friend.
  • Leyendecker: Awoken Warlock Voidwalker. A no-nonsense apprentice Cryptographer and bookworm, and member of Fireteam Vale. She holds a lot of respect for him and his craft.
  • Thadya: Human Titan Sunbreaker. An ancient Titan whom has garnered a lot of respect for being a skilled Crucible sweat, and previous member of Fireteam Vale. The Vanguard's adoption of Stasis powers turned her devotion to the Praxic Order into obsession. Having "taken" her position, they rival one another, though Phoebe's more interested in just being left alone versus Thadya's interest in utterly obliterating her.

Other Characters

  • Vogue-1: Exo Titan. A mysterious figure with an obsession for wealth and fame, and the operations director of VanguardVogue. Phoebe has a mutual loathing for Vogue-1, seeing her as a self-obsessed egomaniac.
